Geraldine McEwan, the much-loved star of Miss Marple will take her bow as the spinster sleuth in Nemesis, which will be shown later this year
Retirement
Announcing her retirement in January, Geraldine McEwan said: “Of course, it is terribly disappointing to have to pass the baton on, but it has been a marvellous experience to inhabit this role for the last few years.
"It has been an absolute pleasure to work on Miss Marple since 2003, and I leave with fond memories.”
Nemesis
In her final performance in Nemesis, Geraldine will be joined by Richard E Grant (Gosford Park), Johnny Briggs (Coronation Street), Amanda Burton (The Commander), Ronni Ancona (The Big Impression), George Cole (Minder) and Will Mellor.
Miss Marple is faced with her greatest challenge yet when she receives instructions from the recently-deceased Mr Rafiel to investigate a "possible crime". But there’s a catch. She has not been told what the crime is.
Instead, she is booked on to a mystery coach tour, led by the captivating Georgina Barrow (Wilson), to gather the clues.
Miss Marple takes her nephew Raymond West (Grant) to accompany her and it dawns on them that everyone has been placed there by Mr Rafiel for a reason. Their lives interconnect in various ways.
More to the point, everyone is connected to a young girl, Verity Hunt, who went missing during the war.
With the help of young detective Colin Hards (Ingleby), Miss Marple and Raymond piece together the secrets of the past to fulfil a promise to a dear old friend.
Julia McKenzie will take over the iconic role of Miss Marple in a new series for 2009.
