Kris Marshall, Georgia MacKenzie and Diana Quick appear alongside canine co-stars Archie the Fox Terrier and Klaus the Rottweiler in this feature-length romantic comedy about the weird world of dog shows.
Catwalk Dogs is the story of Sally (Georgia Mackenzie) and Michael (Kris Marshall), a couple attempting to cope with the trauma of a miscarriage.
The day Michael brings home a pedigree puppy, Archie, their lives change forever.
With their relationship wavering under the emotional stress, Sally decides to leave Michael. She then moves in next door to her new found doggie friend, Guy, and his formidable mother, dog show judge and Rottweiler breeder, Mrs Jessop (Diana Quick).
Michael goes to pieces when Sally leaves, losing his job and self respect. He turns to Archie for solace and man's best friend leads him to the strange but caring members of a local dog club who just might be able to help him win back Sally.
Writer Simon Nye (Beast, Men Behaving Badly) says: "I knew very little about dog shows so I went to Crufts and was blown away by the madness of it all. Breeds I'd never heard of, bizarre accessories and the sheer number of competitors. To be honest, I still struggle to know why the judges pick one dog over another."
Simon is no stranger to working with animals, having penned Beast, the sitcom set in a vet's surgery. Not that that made the process any easier, he says. "The first thing you realise as a writer working on a show like this is that it takes a minute to write a line of action for a dog, then several days for the trainer to provide the dog with the training to shoot that scene.”
