Scott Taylor Interview

Ambulance driver Frankie Robinson has a twinkle in his eye and rarely tells the truth. He's hated and loved in equal measure, says actor Scott Taylor

Frankie had the smirk wiped off his face this series didn't he?
Yes, he was used by a woman, the pop star Dorcas.

It was just deserts in a way wasn't it?
Frankie is the voice of negativity when it comes to women. A lot of them dislike him because he's always been a cad. But some women still like him despite all that.

What happens to him in the next few episodes?
After the attack on Stella he refuses to believe her side of the story and clashes with her. He says she has cried rape. He is unsympathetic to the point of rudeness.

But Frankie does have a good side
He's not a one dimensional baddie. When it comes to women he tries to own them. But he also cares a lot about people. In this series he eventualy realises the error of his ways and eats a lot of humble pie. This series you see the different layers to him.

How do the public react to you?
I get a lot of older people who want to hit me! But they also want to give me a cuddle at the same time.

Do you mind the recognition?
It's cool and scary because I don't expect to get it. Having glamorous girls recognise you is always great but that doesn't happen quite so often. Nine times out of 10 people are great. You always get the odd person in life who can be rude.

This series seems to be differnet from the last. Do you agree?
Yes, it seems edgier and a bit arty. Even though it's set in the 1960s it has a modern feel. The scenes are also shot slightly differently.

What's been the highlight for you?
The explosion scene with the alcoholic dad was great. Robert Daws and I had to rush in and save him.

We hear you had an accident?
Yes, I ripped  the tendons in my back and had to be laid up for a day or two. It was painful but I still love doing the action scenes.

And we've seen you as Lawrence of Arabia
Yes, in the fancy dress party. That was great fun. I can't tell you how hard it is to work with girls like Michelle and Natalie.

We can imagine
Well when you're getting up at 7am to go in for work it's nice to know there'll be some lovely smiling faces when you get there.
