ITV star Jeremy Beadle has died aged 59, it has been confirmed.

Beadle, who made his name on ITV shows Game for a Laugh, Beadle's About and You've Been Framed, has lost his battle with pneumonia.

Beadle had been admitted to a London hospital last week and was in a coma during his final hours and was reported to be surrounded by his family as he died.

A TV and radio presenter, Beadle was also awarded an MBE in 2001 for his charity work.

A spokesman for the star said: “Jeremy Beadle MBE passed away peacefully today after a short battle with pneumonia. His wife Sue and close friends were at his bedside."

“In 2005, Jeremy was diagnosed with cancer, but did not let the condition affect his day to day life. In the autumn of 2007 he released 3 new books, and prior to his illness, was busy working on a series of television formats.

“Jeremy was one of ITV's biggest ever stars, with Beadle's About and You've Been Framed regularly pulling in audiences in excess of 15 million.

“Throughout his life, Jeremy was one of the most significant fundraisers for Children with Leukaemia and is estimated to have raised over £100 million for charities of all description. He was awarded an MBE in 2001.

“Our heartfelt condolences go to his wife Sue, his two daughters, Cassie and Bonnie and his step children Leo and Claire. He will be greatly missed.”

Other tributes have flooded in for the TV star. "He was known for his pranks," said former You've Been Framed producer Dianne Nelmes, "But in reality he was the kindest person you could ever meet."

Henry Kelly, Beadle’s co-presenter on Game For A Laugh, said: “Jeremy and I were firm friends for nearly 30 years. I loved and admired him and I shall miss him desperately."

A Facebook group called Jeremy Beadle RIP has also been set up.
