ABOUT THE SHOW: WILL YOUNG

The South Bank Show: Will Young

ABOUT THE SHOW

From backstage at TV shows such as The X Factor, Top Gear and Question Time, to filming access-all-areas at the launch gig for his latest album in London, The South Bank Show offered a unique insight into the world of Will Young.

It was an intensely personal and intimate journey through the working life of the chart star, who was the first musician to emerge from the wave of reality talent shows that has revolutionised the music industry in Britain.

Since winning Pop Idol in 2002, Will has broken out of the mould of manufactured pop star and gone on to become a multi-million selling singer songwriter and a respected live performer.

With exclusive and intimate access to Will’s life and work, Matt Cain’s self-shot South Bank Show documentary followed the artist as he promoted his latest album Let It Go, rehearsed for a sell-out theatre tour of the UK, and prepared to celebrate his 30th birthday.

The programme also hit the road with the star, following him on tour to Newcastle, Manchester and Brighton, and filmed his gig at London’s Camden Roundhouse. Whilst on tour, director Matt Cain took Will to the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester to talk about his recent performance there, acting in Noel Coward's play The Vortex. When the tour arrived in Brighton, Will also took The South Bank Show to his holiday home in the city.

Other highlights of the film included footage shot in Iceland on the set of Will’s latest video for the single Let It Go, and an exclusive look at his recent appearance at the Oxford Union.
