NO HEROICS: GEEK DETAIL

No Heroics contains a layer of detail that pays homage to the history of comicbooks from the last fifty years. The following are some of those references:

The pub itself is a reference to The Fortress of Solitude, where Superman lives. The logo references the enormous golden key that sits outside Superman's Arctic wilderness retreat, and that only he can pick up to enter.

Every one of the signs in The Fortress is written in original Captain America font from the 1940s.

The Pull List is our own comic that the characters in the show occasionally appear in. Its logo is based on different eras of classic seventies and eighties 2000 AD.

Stronts cigarettes refer to 2000 AD's Strontium Dog, while Zarjaz are based on Tharg's favourite catchphrase.

The blackboard is a reference to Andy and The Android from the Dan Slott incarnation of She-Hulk.

Biz Lager - a reference to brilliant 2000 AD artist Simon Bisley.

Green Lamp Ale -  a tribute to DC Comics Green Lantern characters.

Shazamstell - a bad pun on Captain Marvel's catchphrase.

Durham Red - wine is based on the character Durham Red. Natch.
Ozymandyas Champagne - is another such allusion.
Moore’s Old Peculiar – another Alan Moore Reference. 
Morrison’s Mad Scrumpy – Grant Morrison’s hallucinogenic cider.
Ditko's - a reference to Steve Ditko, who co-created Spiderman...
Saline Bitter - a reference to Slaine, the bloodthirsty 2000 AD axeman.

The Fortress till is graced with postcards from some of the world’s best superhero cities.

Spermsocks are No Heroics condoms. Not a reference to anything. We just like how it sounded.
