PlayEmbracing her love of rambling, Janet Street-Porter treads the new Northumberland Coast Path .
Her destination is the village of Bamburgh, where she discovers a lost kingdom and the historically significant Bamburgh Castle.
Perched 150 feet above the sea, the castle continues to keep watch over the coastline’s shimmering expanse of water - as it has for centuries. Local Archaeologists reveal artefacts that suggest Bamburgh was once the heart of a forgotten kingdom, seat of the kings of Northumbria.
Continuing north along the sweeping golden sands she visits mystical Lindisfarne (Holy Island), home to the ruined seventh century Benedictine priory and Lindisfarne Castle, to find out why the island is often heralded as Britain's “cradle of Christianity”.
Back at Bamburgh, Janet is given a guided tour around one of the specially converted apartments that belong to the few lucky residents who actually live in the castle and are luckey enough to wake each morning to stunning views.
Finally Janet reveals her favourite view – looking up towards Bamburgh Castle from the beach: "It's a coastline ravaged by nature and steeped in history, there's a story around every single corner… you're not just looking at a view, you're standing in the footsteps of kings, and all on one of the most dramatic coastlines nature has to offer"
