Angellica Bell: The interview
Who would work in your fantasy celebrity airline?
I’d like Nick Knowles to be at that check-in desk because he’s a ladies man and I could flirt with him to get an upgrade. He’s usually putty in my hands when I flirt with him.
I would love Trevor McDonald in the cabin crew because he has just got such a great voice for that tannoy and would be so lovely and approachable. Nothing would be a problem for him, I’m sure.
And Tara Palmer-Tomkinson would also be fun – she would have all the best make-up and jewellery duty-free and would probably be slipping me free champagne! She’s top.
Do you think airline uniforms are sexy?
Oh yes, I’m into uniforms, but especially the pilot’s uniform…
Have you ever been chatted up on a plane?
I’ve actually pulled on a plane! I was on a flight to LA on my own and was sitting in Business Class where it’s more intimate - there are less people and you feel compelled to talk to the person next to you. Well, I did anyway!
I fell asleep because I’d been working non-stop, and when I woke up, the guy next to me was being really chatty. We got on ridiculously well, plus he was in the army and I love a man in uniform.
We talked about everything under the sun - it was like we’d met in another life or something. But when we landed in LA I had to get a connecting flight to Vegas, so I went to get my bags and lost him!
We’d had a little date on the plane and I wanted to say goodbye. I missed my flight anyway and it was all really sad. Then about two months later he wrote to me at the BBC and asked if I’d like to meet up for dinner. So we met up and… well, let’s just say we’re still in touch to this day.
What's your view on mile-high activities?
Well I am in fact a member of that club, and I can tell you that with my experience now, next time it happens it will go smoothly, without as much turbulence and I will not get caught!
What do you think our celebs are going to find most difficult?
All the celebs have to go through a training process, because ultimately, safety is our most important concern. So if they’re not up to scratch and don’t pass the course, they’re not going to get on the planes. And if they’re not good on the aircrafts, they’re going to be sacked. So it’s quite a challenge.
But I also think working with each other will be difficult. Usually you see celebrities meeting on shows, but they will have been training together for a month already and will know everyone’s bad habits. So they might be nicely irritated before they even get going.
I suppose the saving grace is that they won’t be piloting the plane. That would be a whole other show…
