An emotional Bruce shocks fellow chefs by resigning during Marco's latest sacking.
Yes, it seems that seeing his wife in the restaurant provoked a shock reaction in kitchen “rock” Bruce Grobbelaar.
“If I’m not the one sacked tonight I’d like to walk through the door,” he told Marco in front of his stunned kitchen colleagues. “It’s not that I don’t want to stay here, but I feel that these people here deserve it more than I do…
“I realised with my wife sitting there, she needs me more than these people.”
Clearly hurt and disappointed to be losing one of his top trainees, Marco eventually let him go with his blessing:
"You walk out of Hell’s Kitchen a winner Bruce. It hurts me, it saddens me to see you go,” he sighed.
Needless to say, Bruce was welcomed back to the restaurant with open arms when he stopped by for a chat with Hell hostess Claudia. And he had something else to say when it came to his heartache of late.
"It's been a pretty tough week with the 20 year Hillsborough anniversary," he explained. "And with Marco telling us to make a dish from our childhood...
"For Marco to sack someone last night, I didn't want that to happen. I wanted to give someone else a chance."
But before Bruce left the restaurant for good, he had one last word to say about his magnificent mentor: "Marco is a complex man but he's a beautiful person," he told Claudia.
Three down, five remain. Don't miss a moment in the build-up to the final...
