Brighton Surprisee

Brighton

This surprise makeover is for Richard and Mae who live in a bungalow in Brighton. Nicky and Eve wanted to surprise their parents with a fantastic makeover for the house after the family has been through a difficult time. Twenty four years ago Nicky and Eve’s sister died in a tragic accident. As a result of the shock Mae developed diabetes. Five years ago she lost one of her legs and last year she sadly lost the other. She now has prosthetics and is learning to walk comfortably on them. Richard, her husband, is her full time carer so it’s difficult to find the time to decorate and a makeover would certainly brighten up the home.

The designer: Richard Randall
Designer  Richard Randall is hoping to bring some comfort and glamour to this home with a fresh and funky design.

Living/dining room
Richard wanted to transform this room from plain and dated to a comfort room for Mae and Richard to relax in by using a hint of art deco. By using silver, lime green and earthy tones Richard has given this room a modern sophisticated feel.

Main bedroom
The green walls have been replaced with a calming blue and the fitted wardrobes have been ripped out and replaced with a stylish feature wall. Richard has decked this room out with washed finishes, muted tones and feminine shades along with subtle and interesting modern touches. Keeping the existing dressing table he has tied together the colour of the fitted furniture giving the room a coordinated feel.

Conservatory
Richard certainly has the key to unlock the enormous potential in this conservatory and he has transformed it from a dull and uninviting space to a spectacular haven; the perfect place to relax in the sunshine. Sisal carpet on the floor and light green blinds have brought colour and texture to the room with a muted earthy green backdrop, glass reflective dining table and comfy light seating to bring the outside in, introducing the wonderful garden perfectly.

Gym room
Before the 60 Minute Makeover team arrived this was just a storage space at the end of the garden with no practical use as a room. It now has a spacious fresh feel to it with wood effect flooring and mirrored cupboards. This not only creates a ‘studio’ feel to the room but offers a practical storage solution too. Richard is a football referee and Mae would like a private place to build up her upper body strength to improve her walking so Richard has created an inviting atmosphere to exercise in.
