Today the 60 Minute Makeover team are in Hainault Essex. Daughter Ellie has called in the team to transform the home of her fantastic mum Marion. Marion has lived here for an incredible 57 years. She’s never been happy with the house but today that’s all about to change. We’ve been called in to makeover four rooms in just one hour!
The designer: John Amabile
Today’s designer is John Amabile. He’s certainly got a few tricks up his sleeve for this house. John is ready to transform Marion’s home into the perfect tranquil place that she has been dreaming it could be for the last five decades.
Living room
This room was all over the place, it was cold and tired looking. John wanted to pull it all together and make it somewhere Marion could relax and feel proud to entertain in. Using Marion’s recently bought fireplace as inspiration, he introduced a focal point in the form of a feature wall and a new leather sofa. The room was finished off and dressed with a selection of indulgent fabric’s and cushions.
Kitchen
This room was a disaster and looked as if it hadn’t changed for years. It had an odd, impractical layout which didn’t make use of the space and all of the appliances were old and worn out.
John decided to use a cool new Ikea kitchen with a fully integrated oven and hob and a new layout which made the most use out of the limited space. John also decided to try and bring the kitchen out into the hallway to make the whole room feel more open plan.
Main bedroom
This room was horrible. With its old tired carpet and dull walls it was the most deserving room in the house and John transformed it into a luxurious boutique. Using a lovely wrought iron bed and laying a new carpet this room already felt completely different. The room was finished off with a feature wall and Paris style pedestal table and chairs to allow Marion to have a space to relax and unwind.
Ellie’s bedroom
Ellie’s room was cream, cream, cream… it was boring and bland and was in need of some colour. John decided to create an urban feeling room with a bold feature wall, and a new sleek bed. By altering the furniture position John made the room feel much bigger and a lot more grown up and sophisticated.
