Stevenage Surprisee

Stevenage

03/04/2008

Noeleen lives in a terrace house in Stevenage. She was about to get the star treatment, thanks to daughter, Georgina.

About 15 years ago, Noeleen’s mother, Doreen, developed Parkinson’s disease. This got steadily worse until about 10 years ago when Doreen became bed-ridden. Noeleen looked after her, bathing her and feeding her until she passed away last year.

She had no time to decorate the house while she was looking after Doreen, so Georgina wants to surprise her mum with a 60 Minute Makeover to give her a house she can be proud to invite people over to.

The designer: John Amabile
John wanted to bring this house into the 21st century and create the perfect place for Noeleen to live, work and entertain in.

Living/dining room
This room was full of mix-and-match furniture and packed with clutter. John introduced a Moroccan theme with stunning rattan furniture, stone effect flooring and lots of north African accessories. A feature wall with a new fireplace and wall-mounted TV will help Noeleen feel right at home.

Main bedroom
With no central theme or style in the room John has added some glitzy glamour with some metallic wallpaper and replaced the old painted furniture with a lovely dark wood range. He used a selection of stripes, floral and neutral colours. Noeleen’s bedroom is now a calm and relaxing space.

Guest bedroom
Noeleen’s guest bedroom was dull, outdated and uninviting for her guests. Now it has a fresh and clean feel with the use of blues and greens and a stunning fabric headboard reminiscent of Charles Renee Mackintosh.

Study
This room was being used as a storage space for boxes old belongings. This contemporary and stylish space now has a practical working area with plenty of space for all of Noeleen’s paperwork. John has made this room multifunctional by using a sofa bed which can be pulled out when Noeleen invites her friends to stay.
