John Burton Race

Lively John describes himself as: "Mad as a hatter, sharp as a knife, a culinary genius and a big softie at heart."

Born in Singapore, he spent his youth travelling and experiencing food from around the world before settling in Hampshire.

He held various head chef positions before opening his own restaurants L'Ortolan in Berkshire and later the Landmark Hotel in London - both of which received Michelin stars.

John was made famous by his appearance on Channel 4 series, French Leave, which documented his departure from the hectic London culinary world to the French countryside in 2003.

Another series, Return of the Chef, was filmed when he relocated to seaside town Dartmouth where he currently runs The New Angel. The restaurant was awarded a Michelin star in 2005.

After finishing work on the first series of Best Dish last year, John appeared on I'm a Celeb... and had numerous onscreen rows with Lynne Franks. He was the camp's main cook and was the fourth contestant to be voted off the show.
