Dogs Trust

Founded in 1891 to protect dogs from torture and ill-treatment of every kind, the Dogs Trust - formerly known as the NCDL - has been pursuing its goal with determination for over 100 very successful years now.

Vowing never to turn down a reasonable request for help, the Dogs Trust began operations funded entirely by donations from members and supporters. In 1902 membership totalled 1,000 for the first time and continued to grow steadily to 6,500 members by 1910. Today Dogs Trust has over 600,000 members and supporters and is still growing.

Manchester and Cheshire Dogs' Home

Manchester & Cheshire Dog's Home

Manchester & District Home for Lost Dogs was founded in 1893 by a group of Manchester businessmen concerned by the large number of stray dogs roaming the city. Their work goes on to this day.

Until the re-organisation of local government in 1974, the home was entirely funded by its subscribers and legacies, except for small token donation from three Police Authorities. The home now covers Greater Manchester, parts of Derbyshire and Lancashire and North East Cheshire. In total the home covers 34 separate authorities and calls at 70 police stations.
