01Tonia has a phobia of her father’s allotment vegetables but doesn’t mind eating ones from the supermarket. She’s tried to lose weight at slimming clubs in the past but was unsuccessful. Tonia, who doesn't work, has had heart problems and is undergoing tests for pain and numbness in her hands.
02Mick should be used to a tough exercise and food regime after spending nine years in the army. He left the military in 1984 having served in Germany and Northern Island. Mick has a stress injury in his coccyx, which prevents him from working, and he has diabetes.
03Yo-yo dieter Terri has struggled with her weight in the past and volunteered for her family to take part in this programme. Terri is a receptionist and library assistant and lives with her boyfriend Paul. She tries to go the gym twice a week.
04Harry is learning to be a motor mechanic. He was a regular at his local gym, but stopped going after his jaw was broken in a fight. He’s started going again and has his own weight bench at home and also cycles to work and back each day.
05Mikey has become ill in the past from not eating enough. He likes to exercise and walks everywhere as opposed to getting the bus. He finds school boring but enjoys art and design.
06Marc’s favourite meal is mashed potato with lashings of tomato ketchup. Tonia is very proud of the fact Marc is trying new foods – and even eats carrots. He’s also hoping to do more exercise by joining a football team.
07Olly is the baby of the family. She was taken in by the Sargersons when she was three months old and they are in the process of adopting her. Olly loves fruit, vegetables and salads and practices her High School Musical dance routines non-stop.
08Jim, a retired merchant seaman, is the healthiest member of the family. He has an allotment and grows his own vegetables, which he has encouraged his son Mick and the rest of the family to try. Despite his efforts, the family won’t go near them – especially Tonia, who is scared they’ll contain maggots.
