Sony Walkman W350i

SONY ERICSSON WALKMAN W350i
The Walkman: reloaded
The Sony Walkman would have to be in the top 10 list of gadgets of all-time.
From the humble cassette tape to the CD, they changed the way teenagers listened to music on the move.
The firm's MP3 versions have always been good although totally overshadowed in the youth sector by the rise of Apple's iPod.
But there's no beating the charms of the Walkman phone range for teens. These have sold more than 66 million handsets since launching in 2005.
After all, they play music - and they make phone calls - what more could any self-respeciting youngster need in their pocket?

This one is certainly going to add to those massive numbers because for the first time, it places the controls on the front of the flip.
Obviously, that makes life a lot easier saving you opening it up to change tracks or albums and puts it directly up against proper MP3 gadgets.
It's a neat-looking device, very thin and stylish in black and orange and it comes with a decent set of in-ear headphones too.
What lets it down though is the tiny internal memory that comes as standard. You'll have to buy a memory card for it, but it can take up to 4GB and that should set you back less than £30.
When you consider you can get the phone for free, then it's not a bad outlay and will let you store a few thousand songs which is far more than you'll ever get through on the way to college.
The handset has Bluetooth, which means it will also work with wireless stereo headsets, but there's only a basic camera. It's fine for taking snaps to email or put on the web but print quality won't be fantastic.
Music though is this mobile's reason for living and it won't let you down - unlike your own dubious taste in tunes that's likely to feature on it.
RATING: Four stars
