Sometimes you can alter your body through strenuous work or strict dieting. Or you could medically alter your natural appearance and slyly have some work done. Here's a selection of celebs who possibly fall into the latter category... The former Mrs Elvis, Priscilla Presley, is rumoured to have had Botox, a brow lift, a nose job, cheek implants and possibly a few other nips and tucks.
Meanwhile her former son-in-law is possibly the best known celebrity plastic surgery case, even though Michael himself claims to have had only minimal work done.
Another case of plastic surgery gone wrong is Leslie Ash, who suffered an allergic reaction to a lip procedure which left her with her famous 'trout pout'. Her medical woes continued when she contracted MRSA during a different hospital visit and suffered paralysis in her lower body.
The singer, actress and constant attractor of trouble has admitted to a variety of surgical procedures over the years - at first changing her original features and then deciding the results were too generic and slowly returning to a look closer to the one she was born with.
The Sin City and 8 Mile actress has never admitted to having any plastic surgery of body enhancements. She was dogged with rumours of a breast augmentation early in her career, which she denied. She's recently been seen sporting quite a trout pout of her own. Again, how it got there is a mystery.
One star who has been less shy about her plastic surgery has been Weakest Link host Anne. She's been quite open about her botox and face-lift procedures which gave her a stunning new look.
Cher has admitted to becoming the 'plastic surgery poster girl' and is quite open about having a breast augmentation, nose surgery and a variety of other nips and tucks.
The current head of the Versace fashion empire has a distinctive look with her perma-tan and long platinum hair. Her lips also seem to have grown in recent years.
The Blondie singer and punk diva has admitted to having surgery for 'business reasons'. She claimed a younger, fresher look photographs better and play a key part in her being a top entertainer.
Demi is reported to have had breast implants, collagen injections and liposuction on her hips, thighs and stomach, as well as a procedure to lift the sagging skin on her knees. She has recently spoken out at ageism in Hollywood directed at actresses over 40.
Goldie has fought against and denied plastic surgery rumours for years, claiming a healthy lifestyle and exercise are all she needs to feel young. Goldie's also happy to be seen out and about without make-up.
Someone who is happy to talk about his augmentation (well he couldn't really deny it could he) is Pete Burns. He has had extensive injections into his lips, along with cheek implants and several nose jobs. He was forced to undergo months of reconstructive surgery after one lip enhancing procedure went wrong.
Another plastic surgery devotee is the comedy icon Joan Rivers, who has admitted to having many image enhancing procedures. She's even appeared in a number of editions of plastic surgery drama Nip/Tuck.
Tori admits to having a nose job as a teenager (paid for by her ultra-rich parents) but is more reticent about any other procedures she may or may not have had. Rumours persist of a possible boob-job and a variety of other operations over the years.
Mickey is almost unrecognisable from the hunky Brat Pack actor who surfaced in the 1980s. Once considered the new Brando, a period as a boxer and numerous plastic surgery procedures have altered his look completely.
Sharon has been an outspoken advocate of surgery in the past - but has recently retired from having any more ops. She has previously undergone a boob job, face lift and brow lift, liposuction on her neck and arms, tummy tuck and more. But she now claims her age means her recovery time is too long and the pain is too much.
