This bridge actually represents the challenge that the natural layout of New York gave to humankind...
About the Brooklyn Bridge
Construction on the Brooklyn Bridge began in 1870 and was completed in 1883 – at which point it became the only means of travelling by land between Manhattan and Brooklyn. Building the bridge cost an estimated $15.5m (not to mention 27 lives).
The structure was originally known as the New York and Brooklyn Bridge, and only formally acquired its new, snappier name in 1915.
At the time of its unveiling, it boasted the proud title of world’s longest suspension bridge. In addition to that, the two towers at either end of the bridge were the tallest structures in the western hemisphere.
It now carries an average of 145,000 vehicles every single day.
