PlayDev Patel (18), from Harrow, has been plucked from relative obscurity to take the lead role in director Danny Boyle's poignant new film, Slumdog Millionaire.
Watch to discover how Danny Boyle's daughter helped Dev land the part
Dev - who previously had featured as Anwar in E4’s coming-of-age series, Skins - plays Mumbai street kid Jamal who goes on the Indian version of Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? in order to find his long-lost love.
Danny’s previous films (Trainspotting, 28 Days Later & Sunshine) have gone on to become some of the most iconic British movies of a generation, so Dev was understandably nervous about working with the acclaimed director.
"After every single audition I was like, 'Damn it. I haven't got it.' I went home nearly in tears."
However, when Dev received the news he’d been successful, he couldn’t believe it, “…to be honest, I really wanted to get hold of Danny to check if it was legitimate or if someone was playing a trick on me."
Slumdog Millionaire (15) - Opens January 9 2009
