A brief history of bras

The 1960s saw the first introduction to Lycra into our bras.. but it also became the victim of rebellious burning by feminists making a stand on how women were viewed in society.

In 1994, the Gossard Wonder Bra cased a huge sensation across the county with the infamous Eva Herzigova billboard campaign.

At its height of popularity during the campaign, one Wonderbra was selling every 15 seconds. It has now become a firm favourite with women all over the world who want a little extra help in the cleavage department.

England skipper John Terry’s wife Toni pays homage to Eva Herzigova’s original Wonderbra billboard. She recreates the pose for the brand’s fundraising breast cancer calendar. 

The new gel silicon bra brand Ultimo proved there were huge amounts of money involved in the industry, using model Penny Lancaster to promote their brand for a reported £200,000. 

Rachel Hunter replaced Penny Lancaster two years later for a huge £1 million. This caused quite a stir as rocker Rod Stuart was, at the time, in the middle of divorcing Rachel and dating Penny…
