Bust a Gut

Bust a Gut - Episode one

When John and Shelley married in 1982 they weighed considerably less, but lack of exercise and poor diet have lead to weight piling on over the years.  Their size has left them desperately unhappy and day to day tasks have become a struggle, restricting their lives. Things have become so bad the Harts are embarrassed to be seen out in public.

Obesity can be life threatening, so before the Harts made any changes, their health had to be properly assessed.  A consultation with leading obesity expert Dr Ian Campbell gave John and Shelley the wake up call they needed and although their tests showed neither of them had developed any major medical problem, it was clear their health was at serious risk unless they changed.

With nutritional advice from Dr Campbell and help from Julie Dawn Cole the Harts began their new healthy regime. They also began exercising regularly, from gentle walking outside to using a mini pedal exercise bike in doors, but other great calorie burning activities for those ready to take on more are gardening, swimming and dancing.

You should always consult your GP before undertaking any major change in your diet or exercise regime.
