Test Will Save Babies
The Sunday Express - 30 March
Hundreds of babies' lives could be saved each year with the launch of a new test for a deadly pregnancy complication. Pre-eclampsia affects one in 10 women and is frequently not detected until the lives of the mother and her unborn child are threatened. Now, one of the country's top experts in antenatal diagnosis claims to have developed a test that is 95 per cent accurate at predicting if there is a risk.
Eating One Sausage a Day Raises Cancer Risk by 20%
The Daily Mail - Monday 31 March
One sausage a day can significantly raise the risk of bowel cancer, one of the deadliest forms of the disease, experts have warned. Eating 1.8oz (50g) of processed meat a day - the equivalent of one sausage or three rashers of bacon - raises the likelihood of the cancer by a fifth, research shows.
Meningitis Jab Could Save Up To 180 Lives a Year
The Daily Telegraph - Saturday 29 March
A life-saving vaccine to protect children against meningitis is now a step closer, doctors have said. The vaccine has been designed to be given to babies in three doses, with a booster after two years. An injection to defend against the B strain of the virus is being developed by a team from the Health Protection Agency. They hope that it will be available within two years.
