Gail Porter

Despite battling with depression, anorexia, self harming, attempting suicide, the loss of her famous blonde tresses through stress related alopecia (all whilst supporting her mother through chemotherapy) Gail Porter, 37, has still found time to pen an incredibly frank and intimate autobiography.

Entitled 'Laid Bare' (released in paperback on August 7), the chirpy Scottish presenters autobiography charts her life in the limelight, from humble beginnings in a small town called Joppa, Edinburgh to the dizzy heights of her presenting career as well as chronicling her well publicised battle with alopecia.

When Gail was asked to write an autobiography, she asked a friend, “'What have I got to write about?’” Her friend replied, “'Er...how about, manic depression, post natal depression, attempted suicide, anorexia, alopecia...'” Gail adds, “It sounds stupid, but when you're going through all these things, it doesn't register just how much bad stuff is happening to you. I just thought I was very unlucky."

Throughout her ordeal, Gail has always managed to remain positive in the face of media intrusion, whether it’s in regards to her split from Toploader guitarist Dan Hipgrave or her own personal battle with self harming and anorexia.

One thing is for certain however, "If it wasn't for Honey, I wouldn't have handled things as well as I have,” Gail admits. “She's too young to fully understand - I won't talk to her about it all now, but I certainly will when she's older. Life without Honey is unimaginable, she's my best friend."
