Household bills

Start saving money on your household bills now for an easier life with Jasmine’s great tips.

Jasmine says:  "When trying to save money on bills think short term sacrifice, long term gain."

Switch suppliers
- Set yourself a goal to save £1,000 in a year - this will help spur you on. Also, set an evening or two aside to go through your bills - insurance, gas, electric - and see if you can switch to a cheaper supplier
-  Now is a good time to do this as the prices go up in the Autumn and suppliers are always desperate for new customers
-  The best place to start looking is on internet price comparison sites - they're all over the place at the moment but it's best to wait until your policy is coming up for renewal before switching
- I always say switch suppliers every year to save money.

Threaten to leave
- Complain if you are not happy with the service you are getting. This works best with banks and mobile phone suppliers who will often pull out all the stops to keep your business and will give you much better deals if they think you will switch to another network/bank

Beat your bank
- It seems to be a lot of hassle but it's worth it as a lot of banks offer really good deals for new customers, often offering cash incentives and better rates to join, so why stick with the same bank year after year?

Get some old fashioned values
-The simplest way to save money on bills is by cutting the amount of electricity, gas and water you use.
- Get into the habit of switching off appliances instead of leaving them on standby, putting timers on heating/hot water, turning lights off when not using them, turning down the thermostat and wear a jumper indoors.
