On today's show Sarah Heaney gets the lowdown on Lisbon, discovering why it's the perfect destination for a weekend city break. She also ventures further afield to the beaches of Cascais and Estoril to find out how they've changed since the programme first reported on the region in 1974.
Sarah checks out the Portuguese capital's historic city sights from one of the old trams and takes a more modern form of transport, the teleferico, to continue her sightseeing.
She explores the redeveloped industrial area, Parque das Nações, or Nations Park, with its international conference centre, concert hall and casino. Also home to Europe's largest aquarium, Sarah takes a closer look at its vast array of turtles, sharks, rays and barracudas.
A shot of the local brew, a potent cherry liqueur, gets her in the mood for a night of Portuguese entertainment at a Fado club, where traditional "songs of sorrow" are performed.
Sarah escapes the city to explore the resort of Estoril. When presenter Jim Lloyd arrived in 1974, the town's casino was the last word in glamour; today it remains the main nocturnal attraction.
Heading along the coast to Cascais, Sarah finds that the once slightly shabby village has developed a cosmopolitan edge, and is now one of the smartest places to stay on Portugal's Costa du Sol.
Here, we also catch up with a couple whose eyes literally met across a crowded room. Eva Sanches married the man who enchanted her with a birthday serenade on holiday in Portugal in 1969.
