Fuel credit scheme launched

Gordon Brown is to give Britain's poorest families vouchers to help them heat their homes.

As fuel bills soar, the Government has announced the handout for families who are claiming child tax credit.

It is understood up to six million families could get vouchers of £50-£100.

It had previously been reported that ministers were considering giving up to £150 to all families claiming child benefit.

The news comes after power suppliers British Gas and EDF energy announced price rises.
