Scotland's Olympic medallists, including triple gold winner Chris Hoy, will be welcomed home with a victory parade through the capital today.

The 32-year-old track cyclist was the first Briton for 100 years to win three gold medals at a single Olympics - and became Scotland's greatest Olympian in the process.

But the celebrations will be bittersweet as the Edinburgh velodrome where he learned his skills faces closure.

The local council plans to demolish the velodrome, part of the sports complex at Meadowbank Stadium, and replace it with a "downsized" sports venue.

The track has had little investment since hosting the cycling events of the 1986 Commonwealth Games and its progressive decline has put its survival in doubt.

Instead a new velodrome has been promised in Glasgow as part of its preparations for the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
