PlayForeign Secretary David Miliband has praised the enthusiasm of Pakistan's new civilian government.
Mr Miliband was speaking during an official visit to the country's capital Islamabad - his third visit to Pakistan and the seventh by a British minister in as many months.
He said: "I am very keen that countries like Britain play their full part in supporting the still relatively new civilian democratic government in Pakistan.
"We will do that with a real sense of urgency and commitment and I think we will also be able to persuade our European partners that it is in their interests to take this forward as well."
Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mehmood Qureshi said: "It is a pleasure meeting with Mr Miliband once again. We had a good discussion on a number of issues.
"Obviously Pakistan is grateful for the support the UK has provided us and we appreciate the support for the friends of democratic Pakistan."
Mr Miliband is on two-day visit to Pakistan for talks with the country's leadership aimed at boosting bilateral relations and enhancing security co-operation.
He has meetings planned with the President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani and main opposition leader Nawaz Sharif.
