The Government is reportedly set to increase compensation payouts to wounded service personnel.

The Armed Forces Compensation Scheme currently sees injured veterans get a maximum payout of £285,000, no matter how badly they are hurt.

The sums are often compared to much higher amounts awarded to the victims of far less serious injuries in the civil courts.

Now soldiers like Lance Corporal Martyn Compton, who suffered burns to 70 per cent of his body during a Taliban attack in Afghanistan, could be in line for more help, according to an ITV News report.

The Defense Secretary Des Browne is due to make an announcement on the issue in the Commons on Thursday.
