Will the Taser gun help the crack down on crime?

The metropolitan police will announce that it will allow more officers to carry Taser guns.

The Tasers, which deliver 50,000 volts of electricity through the body, have previously only been used by specialist firearms officers, but now your average policeman will also have use of them.

Following the death of a Canadian man last month, after police used a taser gun on him, is its greater use in the UK a good idea?

Do you think the average policeman should be able to carry the Taser gun and if so why?
