There are some strange places that TV journalism has taken me to…..on a piece of ice floating between Russia and America, in the middle of a shootout in downtown Lagos and more recently in the gutting room of a North Sea trawler ….for five days ….. with no shower.....and economy burgers for every meal…. I sympathised with the other people in the train carriage on the way home.

Yet all of the scary and smelly times, do not dissuade from what a great life this is. Finding a story, speaking to those who want something done about it and asking uncomfortable questions to the people in power is what I get out of bed in the morning for – well that and a 150 decibel, two and half year old, demanding sugar-coated cereals.

In the past I’ve worked for the BBC, Channel 4 News, Channel 5 News and I started off reading the news for Hong Kong telly where my work regularly received a lower audience than the subsequent programme which was a live shot of a fish tank. Now I’m working for ITV1’s Tonight – Britain’s most-watched current affairs programme and it’s a great place to be.

Away from the office I like watching Middlesbrough FC muster a goalless draw, dodging potholes on my motorbike and pulling hilarious faces for my daughters.
