England will be looking to restore some national pride this summer when one of football's most famous rivalries is resumed at Sheffield United's Bramall Lane on August 7th.

Some of the biggest names from England's past will once more wear the three lions with pride when they take on a team of German Legends, many of whom played in one of the two most famous clashes between these two sides - in Turin in the 1990 World Cup semi-final, or at Wembley for the Euro '96 semi-final. In both games the Germans emerged victorious. This is England's chance for revenge.

The England Legends will also be looking to settle scores from two years ago when they went down 4-2 to the Germans at the Majeski Stadium.

Since then, the likes of Paul Merson, Ray Parlour, and Bryan Robson have scored victories over a Rest of the World XI and, more recently, victory over Scotland at St. Mary's. But this game will provide their sternest test yet.

Combatative midfielder and Everton legend Peter Reid will once again take charge of a squad that features some of the biggest names in English football over the past two decades. Former Manchester United winger Lee Sharpe, Liverpool legend John Barnes, ex-Arsenal attacker Paul Merson, and the talented former Liverpool and Nottingham Forest hitman Stan Collymore are just some of the players at Reid's disposal.

Lining up against them is a formidable selection of some of the biggest and most successful names in German football. Euro 96 winners and former Tottenham stars Christian Zeige and Steffen Freund, former Bundesliga top scorer Fredi Bobic, and Thomas Helmer - who's played at two World Cups and two European Championships - will be looking to ensure Germany's record against the English doesn't take a hammering.

In one of the games many sub-plots two of the England stars who played in the 1990 semi-final in Italy - 'Captain Marvel' Bryan Robson and former Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday ace Des Walker - will come face-to-face with one of the German players who denied them the chance to play in a World Cup Final. Defender Guido Buchwald, has been capped 76 times for Germany, is a double Bundesliga champion, and was a World Cup winner in 1990.

Reid is determined to get one over one of England's biggest rivalries. Speaking ahead of the game, the former Sunderland and Manchester City manager said: "I have sent a message out to Germany that this is a game we’re aiming to win. We played Germany Legends at Reading in 2006 and they won 4-2, but I think we’ll have a far better squad this time around. I know Germany are going to be a different proposition to Scotland but, with a decent Sheffield crowd behind us, I think we can do it.”

Craig Doyle will host proceedings, while Robbie Earle will be on hand to offer expert analysis. England v Germany - Legends Live will also feature innovative coverage, including dressing room cameras.

ITV4 is exclusively broadcasting the game live in the UK with the action simulcast on ITV.com. ITV4 will also broadcast the third of the summer Legends series when England take on Ireland in September.

Before England v Germany - Legends Live, ITV4 will broadcast a preview documentary on Monday evening at 7pm looking back at the famous footballing rivalry between these two nations.
