The Dark Blues continued their recent dominance of the event with a powerful performance. Cambridge rowed impressively to recover from their poor start and led for part of a dramatic race, but it was Oxford who took control in the final reckoning.
Oxford took advantage of that sluggish start by their rivals to open up a slight lead which they held as the crews went below Hammersmith Bridge.
But despite hauling back their rivals and having the advantage going into the Surrey bend, the Light Blues simply had no answer to the stronger, heavier Oxford crew as they breezed around the outside to take a lead they would never lose.
The second half of the race was a procession as Cambridge, for all their style, failed to come to terms with the Dark Blue boat and could only look on in agony as Oxford crossed the line first in a time of 17 minutes to seal their 75th win in the series.
