Mark Kinsella - Midfielder

Central midfielder Mark Kinsella, 36, made 48 appearances for the Republic, scored three times and is a former Irish Footballer of the Year. Kinsella made over 200 appearances for Charlton Athletic. His battle with Ray Parlour could be key to the final outcome.

    Eddie-McGoldrick - Ireland legends

    Eddie-McGoldrick - Midfielder

    Eddie McGoldrick, 43, played for the Republic of Ireland on 15 occasions. A 1994 European Cup Winners Cup winner with Arsenal, McGoldrick made over 350 top flight appearances for the likes of Crystal Palace, Arsenal and Manchester City.

      Ray Houghton Ireland legends

      Ray Houghton - Midfielder

      The game marks a welcome return to one of the Republic's most celebrated sons. Houghton spent three years at Fulham before moving to Liverpool. He pulled on a Republic shirt on 73 occasions, scoring his most famous goal against England at Euro 88.

        Kenny Cunningham - Defender

        There can be few players more resolute, than Kenny Cunningham. The Dublin-born defender was much-loved at Millwall, Wimbledon and Birmingham making over 500 appearances combined for the three clubs and made an impressive 70 appearances for his country.

          Alan Kernaghan Ireland legends

          Alan Kernaghan - Defender

          Able to play in defence, midfield or attack, Kernaghan earned cult status wherever he played. His application earned 26 caps for the Republic of Ireland and the England backline would do well to watch the versatile 6’2” man.

            Dennis Irwin Ireland legends

            Dennis Irwin - Defender

            The tough-tackling full-back made 56 appearances for his country, as well as 368 appearances for Manchester United where he won the Champions League , Cup Winners Cup, seven Premiership titles, three FA Cups and one League Cup.

              David Kelly Ireland legends

              David Kelly - Striker

              One of the few men to have received a standing ovation at St. James’ Park by both sides of the Tyne-Wear divide, this former Newcastle and Sunderland striker scored goals wherever he played – 194 in 606 games first class club games and nine in 26 for his country.

                Kelham O'Hanlon

                Kelham O'Hanlon - Goalkeeper

                As well as making almost 500 league appearances, O'Hanlon never conceded a goal for the Republic, keeping a clean sheet in a 5-0 win over Israel in 1987. Fondly remembered for his spells at Middlesbrough and Preston, he is currently a coach at Barnsley.

                  Niall Quinn - Striker

                  Made his name at Arsenal, Manchester City and Sunderland and famously scored the equaliser against Holland in the 1990 World Cup which allowed Ireland to progress. Scored 21 goals in 92 games for Ireland

                    Incredibly successful in his native Ireland where he won three League of Ireland Championships, two FAI Cups and one Dublin City Cup, O’Brien also made 31 appearances for Manchester United and 151 for Newcastle

                      Frank Stapleton

                      Frank Stapleton - Striker

                      This Arsenal and Man Utd great made 71 appearances for his country, scoring 20 goals. Stapleton was so committed to the Republic that he insisted on an 'international release clause' in all his club contracts. He'll need to be committed again on October 9th.

                        Jason McAteer

                        Jason McAteer - Midfielder

                        52 appearances for the Republic and 100 for Liverpool, McAteer was also a favourite at Bolton, Sunderland, Blackburn and Tranmere. His greatest moment came when he scored the decisive goal in a 2001 World Cup qualifier against Holland. Decisive again?

                          John Byrne

                          John Byrne - Striker

                          Almost scored in every round of the FA Cup when Sunderland reached the final in 1992. His best day in a green shirt came when he scored two goals in a 3-1 win in Turkey. The former QPR man once dribbled the length of the pitch to score against Chelsea!

                            Full-back who earned the respect of team-mates and wingers with his sense of commitment and fair play. Played in Boro’s exciting Brazilian era and made ten starts for Mick McCarthy’s Ireland.
