Oxford Utd 0-0 Dorchester

Published: Saturday, 8 November 2008, 12:00AM

Oxford spurned an avalanche of chances as they were held to a goalless draw against non-League minnows Dorchester.

Dorchester goalkeeper Gareth Stewart, who had an unsuccessful trial with Oxford in the summer, was the star of the show making a host of impressive saves.

Eddie Hutchinson should have put the home side ahead after only three minutes but Stewart came to his side's rescue with a smart stop.

Stewart was up to his old tricks after 12 minutes, saving at the feet of James Constable as Oxford threatened to run riot.

Constable, on a season long loan from Shrewsbury, was left red-faced after 23 minutes as he somehow failed to score from just six yards out.

Chris Willmott then managed an equally impressive miss from close range just five minutes later as Oxford became increasingly frustrated - fortunately the linesman's flag went up for an offside.

Constable then completed a miserable first-half performance by firing over when he really should have done better.

Oxford goalkeeper Billy Turley needed extended treatment in the second half after an unnecessary challenge from Ryan Moss.

Before Jamie Mudge nearly embarrassed the hosts late on as he tested Turley with a goalbound effort, while Moss should have done better after out-muscling Willmott as the clash entered the closing stages.
