In-form Lincoln sunk Gillingham with two early goals to claim their fourth successive win thanks to a 2-0 triumph at Sincil Bank.
City went in front after 12 minutes when Lee Frecklington stole into the box to head home a cross from Paul Green.
Before Gillingham could recover they found themselves further behind. A superb pass from Adrian Patulea released Dany N'Guessan and the Frenchman ran from the halfway line before finishing with a superb shot into the top corner in the 18th minute.
Gillingham struggled to get into the game and should have been further behind in the 23rd minute. Frecklington took advantage of poor defending to set-up Patulea but the striker shot wide from a good position.
Lennell John-Lewis went close when he headed narrowly over but Gillingham finally managed a shot just before the break when Adam Miller fired over the top.
Gillingham had plenty of the ball in the second half but despite their domination failed to manage a single shot on target.
Lincoln always looked the more dangerous with Patulea and Lee Beevers wasting further chances.
