Macclesfield 0-1 Gillingham

Published: Saturday, 1 November 2008, 12:00AM

Macclesfield suffered their third successive league defeat courtesy of an early headed goal from Adam Miller which earned Gillingham a 1-0 victory.

Miller was left unmarked to power home a seven-yard downward header in the 18th minute despite the best efforts of Izak Reid to keep the ball out.

Macclesfield came to life in second-half injury-time with Francis Green turning sharply 10 yards out before drilling a low shot off the far post. Moments later, Terry Dunfield advanced forward before striking a 20-yard shot over the bar.

After the break, substitute Simon Yeo wasted Macc's best chance as he sliced wide from 15 yards. Home goalkeeper Jon Brain then dropped a simple ball into the path of Miller, who poked the chance onto the foot of the post.

Yeo again went close after 82 minutes but could not find the target from 15 yards and at the death Nicky Southall should have sealed the game for the Gills but his shot slid wide from the edge of the box.
