Notts County 1-2 Rochdale

Published: Tuesday, 28 October 2008, 12:00AM

Lee Thorpe's brace helped in-form Rochdale inflict Notts County's first home defeat since March as they ran out 2-1 winners.

Jamie Forrester's penalty had handed the hosts the lead two minutes after half-time, but Dale cranked up the pressure and equalised 16 minutes later.

Substitute Will Buckley was tackled down the left and Thorpe picked up the ball to fire low into the bottom corner from 20 yards.

A fine Dale counter-attack ended with a slide-rule pass from William Buckley to put in Thorpe, who rounded goalkeeper Russell Hoult to score his fourth of the season.

Dale dominated the first half but it was their keeper Sam Russell who was forced into the first save of the match as he kept out a Jamie Clapham free-kick.

But Hoult was swiftly brought into action and produced two fine saves to deny Gary Jones and Joe Thompson.

County came out of the blocks quickly after the break to earn their penalty when Myles Weston was fouled by Thompson. Forrester found the bottom left hand corner with the spot-kick but it was Thorpe who had the final say.
