Flying Lewis defeats Learjet

Formula 1 star Lewis Hamilton found himself up against new and formidable opposition today in the form of an executive jet.

But Hamilton, driving an F1 McLaren, continued his victorious ways by winning a "race" against the aircraft - a LearJet 60.

As the plane, made by Bombardier of Canada, flew above him, Hamilton roared down the runway at Farnborough at the start of the air show at the Hampshire airfield.

In around 10 seconds it was all over. And although Bombardier insisted the event was not a race, it was understood the control tower had informed the LearJet pilot that Hamilton had won.

Afterwards Hamilton, who won this month's British Grand Prix at Silverstone, said: "It was a great experience to be driving on the runway."

Hamilton often travels in LearJets and was asked about his views on the environmental impact of aviation on the environment. He replied that he very much supported green initiatives.
