Nadal dethrones Federer
Rafael Nadal claimed his first Wimbledon title by defeating the five-time champion Roger Federer in a classic five-set encounter on Centre Court.
The young Spaniard was two sets up before Federer, who has won the past five mens' titles in SW19, hit back to make it 2-2.
A brief rain break in the final set could not halt the drama and when Nadal broke Federer's serve to make it 8-7, he served it out take the final set 9-7 and win the most memorable match of recent years.
Venus Williams took the ladies' singles on Saturday, beating sister Serena in the final. British hope Laura Robson won the girls' singles on Saturday. Now SW19 king Roger Federer is taking on young pretender Rafael Nadal in a five-set-classic.
