Camier seals title success with race win

Leon Camier

2009 MCE Insurance British Superbike champion Leon Camier signed his season off with his 19th race victory of the season at the final race of the year at Oulton Park this afternoon.

Camier said: "That was an awesome race for me and I wanted to end the season with a win. I have to thank the whole Airwaves Yamaha team as they have been my strength and I couldn't have done it without them. I owe this all to them as they have made my dream come true this season and I couldn't have asked for anything more."

The race was initially red flagged on the opening lap when Simon Andrews crashed the MSS Colchester Kawasaki heavily at Cascades, with Alastair Seeley also involved, but the Relentless Suzuki by TAS rider was back on his feet instantly.

Tommy Hill had taken the whole shot off the line on the restart from Stuart Easton, but Camier was third and took the place from the Hydrex Honda at Cascades, with team-mate James Ellison also making a move on the opening lap to push Easton back to fourth.

Camier then took the lead at Lodge from Hill on the opening lap and the 2009 champion didn't look back as he signed his season off in style for the Airwaves Yamaha team from Hill in second.

Easton had been chasing the leading pair hard in third, but on the fifth lap he crashed out at Brittens after catching the kerb and losing the front, to put fourth place Josh Brookes back in the hunt for the podium on the HM Plant Honda, with the Australian able to hold a gap over the battle for fourth to secure his first podium finish of the weekend. Brookes had been battling with Ellison but a technical problem saw him drop back through the pack to finish an eventual 12th place.

Ian Lowry and Sylvain Guintoli were battling for fifth place with the Relentless Suzuki by TAS rider waiting until the final lap to make his move at Shell Oils corner to lead the Worx Crescent Suzuki rider.
