Colin Turkington is the new HiQ MSA British Touring Car Champion, despite Jason Plato claiming a hat-trick of wins in the series finale at Brands Hatch.

Racing Silverline veteran Plato began the day in third place behind Turkington and reigning champion Fabrizio Giovanardi, but his three victories pushed Turkington all the way and helped him secure second place in the final standings.

Plato took victory in a thrilling opening race by overtaking Tom Chilton in the final corner of Brands' grand prix circuit. Giovanardi was third, while Turkington could only manage eigth.

It was victory for Plato again in race two despite losing the lead to Chilton on the very first corner.

However, Turkington limited the damage by moving up to third, with Giovanardi grabbing second.

And it was a similar story in the final race of the season with Turkington settling for second behind Plato, knowing it would be enough to secure him the title.
