Save the Children works in more than 120 countries. We save children’s lives. We fight for their rights. We help them fulfil their potential.
We believe every child is born to shine. But right now, both at home and abroad, too many children aren’t getting that chance.
Across the world
In the poorest countries, 8 million children die before their fifth birthday. Most die from illnesses like pneumonia, malaria and diarrhoea – illnesses that can be easily prevented and treated. In 2011 we believe this is utterly wrong.
We’re working to make sure no child dies needlessly just because of where they’re born.
Over the next three years we’ll help 3 million children beat diseases like diarrhoea and pneumonia. We’ll train 50,000 more health workers (doctors, nurses, volunteers) and make sure 640,000 more women have a trained midwife when they give birth.
At home
Right on our doorsteps here in the UK, too many children see their potential crushed by poverty. Many of our children are going without a bed of their own or a hot meal on the table. They have hopes and dreams, but often they’ve fallen behind before they’ve even started school.
We help the poorest children in the UK get a better start in life at home and at school. We provide emergency grants for families to help them replace a broken cooker or buy a bed for a child who’s grown out of their cot. We help families and schools work together to make sure children get the support they need to get the most out of their education, and have the chance of a better future.
Support us
So while you’re being entertained and amazed by the talented kids on Born to Shine, you’ll also be able to see first-hand how you can help children everywhere overcome some incredibly tough circumstances.
So please help us raise all we can during the show – we couldn’t do the work we do without you. The more generous you can be, the more lives we can save and transform. Every child deserves the chance to shine.
Please help us do more.
