  First Appearance

  • 9 December 1960: The original Street bad boy, Dennis featured in the first ever episode.  His mother, the iconic Elsie Tanner, scolded him for never having a proper job

  Street History

  • 1961 Sings at the Orinoco Club under the name of 'Ricky Dennis'
  • 1962 Accused of theft by Annie Walker.  Ena Sharples clears his name but he leaves for London
  • 1963 Runs 'Dennis Tanner Enterprises'
  • 1964 Trains as a hairdresser.  Exotic dancer Rita Littlewood lodges with him
  • 1966 Swindles a casino and is chased by the heavy mob.  Saved by Len Fairclough
  • 1967 Falls in love with two Swedish sisters.  Gives Elsie away at her wedding
  • 1968 Barred from the Rovers for calling Annie a "cow". Marries hippy Jenny Sutton
  • 1973 Dodgy double glazing deal lands him a three year stretch in Pentonville prison
  • 2011 Befriends Sophie and Sian at the "Roof and Refuge" charity. Is reintroduced to Rita who offers him accommodation in her flat
  • Has to face a ghost from his past, when Norma, a woman he jilted at the alter, comes looking for Dennis. Rita helps him meet her and resolve their issues
  • 2012: Continues to live with Rita and socialise with her, Emily, Norris and Mary from time to time in the Rovers. Grows closer to Rita, declares his love and proposes to her, which she accepts.
