  • 10 November 1999: Dev arrived from Birmingham to help out his cousin Nita Desai in the corner shop when her brother Vikram went missing.

  Street History

  • 1999: Buys all seven branches of his uncle Ravi’s corner shops in the Manchester area
  • 2000: Is pursued by deranged ex-girlfriend Amy Goskirk, whose lies turn the residents against him. Starts dating barmaid Geena Gregory
  • 2001: Takes in Sunita Parekh, who is running from an arranged marriage. Sleeps with Deirdre Rachid at Christmas, following a row with Geena
  • 2002: Separates from Geena. Seduces Deirdre’s daughter Tracy Preston at Christmas
  • 2003: Begins courting solicitor Maya Sharma
  • 2004: Dumps Maya and declares his love for Sunita. Marries Sunita, who is arrested when Maya frames her for bigamy. Survives when Maya ties him up in his flat and sets fire to the shop below
  • 2005: Reveals to Sunita that he has fathered four children, including Amber Kalirai
  • 2006: Heartbroken when Sunita leaves him after giving birth to twins

  • 2011: Disgusted when he discovers Becky stole from the shop's safe whilst Sunita was trapped under the rubble. Vows never to forgive Becky and Steve, although his relationship with Steve slowly recovers some ground over the year
  • Gets into financial difficulties with Owen Armstrong over the repairs to the shop as he hadn't insured the property. Sunita convinces him to sell his other businesses in order to settle his debts
  • Pleased when his daughter Amber returns home from college but clashes with Sunita again over the cost of Aadi's golf lessons
  • Shocked to discover Amber's part in the end of Sophie and Sian's relationship
  • 2012: Steps in for Peter Barlow, when he fails to turn up to be best man at Steve's wedding to Tracy. Falls out with Sunita over her taking a barmaid job at the Rovers
