As Dennis Tanner returns to the cobbles after 43 years, look back at his history in pictures.

Dennis, played by Philip Lowrie, was the son of Elsie Tanner and the original Corrie bad boy, once pursuing a life of petty crime, before he tried to reform and followed his interest in show business.

Dennis left the Street for the last time in 1968 after marrying girlfriend Jenny Sutton. The couple moved to Bristol when Dennis got a new job there.

In 1973, his name popped up once again when he was sent to Pentonville prison for three years for swindling elderly people in a double glazing deal. Dennis was not seen on screen but Elsie went to Pentonville to visit him.

Now, sleeping rough, he reappears in the lives of Coronation Street residents after bumping into his old pal Rita at a soup kitchen.

Dennis arrived back on screen on 12 May and is soon causing more trouble between Street faces old and new - just like the good old days!
