Cast members Jennie McAlpine (Fiz) Alan Halsall (Tyrone) and Georgia May Foote (Katy) were joined by Corrie producer Stuart Blackburn and local competition winner Mrs Denise Thomas laid the last official cobble on ITV's new Coronation Street set at MediaCityUK.
Whilst building continues across the site, the laying of the last iconic cobble on the new street is an important milestone in the creation of the programme's new home.
Finding the perfect cobbles to match the current ones of Weatherfield has required an extensive sourcing process.
Martyn Wells from Lancashire Brick and Tile, who was in charge of finding the new Corrie cobbles, said: "There are many facets that made up the Street cobbles and it was our job to find and match the most famous cobbles in the world!"
"There needed to be a range of stone types to form the blend. We worked closely with a number of local reclamation and demolition companies."
"The search led us to various sites. Ultimately, we managed to reclaim enough cobbles to form the blend from sites including factory demolition at Green Street Salford and gas main replacement work along various canal side locations in Eccles."
"A number of sample display areas had to be constructed for approval and the final blend was initially constructed at Quay Street," Martyn added.
Construction is expected to continue until the end of 2013, while Corrie continues to film at Quay Street until they move to MediaCityUK at a date to be agreed in due course.
