As actor Marc Baylis prepares to make his first appearance in Corrie as Carla's brother Rob Donovan, he reveals all about his arrival.
How does Marc feel about joining the Street as Carla’s brother?
Marc said: "I am absolutely ecstatic to be here. It is such a great job and such a fantastic place to work. I feel I have had a lovely introduction and I’m very proud to be here. Everybody knows the name Coronation Street, it’s a huge responsibility but also a huge honour."
Tell us more about ex-con Rob
Marc revealed: "The way I‘m playing him is neither black nor white. He is a hard-worker and family is very important to him, although he does have a very edgy side to him. When pushed or angered, I think he can be quite dangerous." He added: "He has done a lot of courses to better himself in prison, but he has also met a lot of people who could help him out if he needed it. However, I think at the moment he is trying to stay on the straight and narrow as he tries to prove himself to Carla."
How did he end up in prison?
"It was more of a one-off," Marc said. "Rob was the driver in a post-office robbery; he was trying to gather £5000 pounds to pay off his mother’s debts to a drug-dealer. He felt Carla should have been there, because Rob thinks she would have had the money to help them out. He feels she disassociated herself from the rest of the family by abandoning them."
What sort of relationships does Rob have with Carla and Michelle?
Marc explained: "He and Carla are both fiery, passionate, independent people, so when they clash expect to see fireworks! They have a lot of unfinished business and unresolved issues that could rear there head at anytime, so their relationship is a very exciting one! When they work together they are an unstoppable force!" But with Michelle he revealed: "They have known each other for years – they used to fancy each other when they were growing up. Rob isn’t just there to see Carla, he is happy to see Michelle again too and she definitely gives him the warmer welcome out of the two women."
Is there any romance on the cards for Rob?
Marc answered: "He meets Eva in the Rovers and is immediately attracted to her, but he is fresh from prison so he isn’t looking for a serious relationship, he just wants to have as much fun as he possibly can."
How does Rob react when Carla leaves and wants him to look after the factory?
"He is disappointed that she leaving, as he really wants to re-establish a relationship with his sister," Marc said. "He finds it hard to understand her reasons for leaving at first but he trusts his sister’s judgement and he is happy to take over Underworld while she is away. Rob sees this as the perfect opportunity to prove himself, and enjoys working with Michelle. He respects his sister and is there to support her."
Finally, will Marc watch his first episode on Monday 9th July?
Marc revealed: "If I do I might watch it by myself, or maybe I’ll watch with my Nan!"
