Question: When does Ryan first start to notice Katy?
Answer: The first time he notices her is at the Bistro when he’s there DJ-ing, and Katy’s there with some friends. When he walks over he immediately notices her, she's dressed up a bit more and he sees how pretty she is. That's the first moment when he realises there's an attraction there.
Q: How does he feel when Katy's friends swoon over him?
A: He's used to the attention and he’s pretty comfortable with that, although Tracy Barlow was a slight hiccup along the way!
Q: What is it that attracts Ryan to Katy?
A: Obviously she’s with Chesney, and she's got baby Joseph, so Ryan’s only ever seen her play the mother role. But suddenly he sees her dressed up for the first time, and he realises how pretty she is.
Q: Does it bother Ryan that Katy has a baby and is with Chesney?
A: I don’t think he’s really thinking that far ahead. He has become quite good friends with Chesney, he’s got to know him and they play football together, so it hits him like a hammer that he finds Katy so attractive. He can’t help it.
Q: How does he comfort Katy when she confides in him that Chesney is angry with her?
A: Katy’s moaning about Chesney so Ryan starts comforting her, telling her she’s doing the right thing and that she should get her own job so she can have her own money. He’s there as a shoulder to cry on, which then leads on to other things!
Q: What goes through Ryan’s head when he asks Katy to work at the kebab shop with him?
A: He definitely has an ulterior motive. Getting someone as pretty as Katy working alongside him would be great, because working in a kebab house isn’t the most glamorous of places to be. Having something nice to look at would is a bonus.
Q: Is he looking for a serious relationship with her, or just a bit of fun?
A: I don’t know, these feelings have come out of the blue for him really, it wasn’t expected and there’s certainly been no thought process behind it. He’s just taking it step by step, he doesn’t know what’s going to happen, he doesn’t know how she feels or how he really feels.
Q: What makes Ryan move in for a kiss?
A: It’s one of those cliche moments where they both go to pick something up and their eyes just meet. They hold each other's gaze for a few seconds and then they both go in for a kiss. It’s a mutual thing, for once Ryan isn’t the villain!
Q: If Katy rejects him, will he keep on trying?
A: I think if she was to reject him he’d take it onboard, because she's got a kid and she’s with Chesney. He wouldn’t want to cause such a problem if it is just him literally chasing her. Whereas if she feels the same then maybe it will be a case of let’s see what happens.
Q: Are you enjoying working on this storyline after Ryan’s previous relationship with Tracy?
A: This is great because obviously the story with Tracy involved her using Ryan as a pawn in her game against Steve and Michelle, so this is nice as it’s a mutual feeling between them. There’s no build up, it just happens between them like a bolt from the blue, so it’s a nice romantic story to play out.
Q: Is Ryan getting back to his carefree ways now?
A: Yeah, after the drugs, Tracy messing with the head and the false pregnancy there’s been a lot to take on for him. But he’s kept his head down, concentrated on trying to earn some money and now he can relax, he’s got no-one on his case and he can enjoy himself a bit more.
Q: We’re guessing Michelle isn’t going to be happy about his fling with Katy though?
A: Of course she’s not, his mum is never happy with Ryan. She has a quiet word with Ryan and asks him what the hell he’s doing, but he says: 'chill it’s fine'.
Q: Is there anyone else you’d like Ryan to work with?
A: Well I’ve been lucky enough to have scenes with the Barlows, Tracy the street murderer and Steve McDonald. The one I would like to work with more is Norris, I think it’s always fun to watch Ryan antagonising poor Norris.
