When Carla agreed to marry Frank Foster, it was a decision made with her head, not her heart. As Frank owned 40 per cent of Underworld, their marriage made business sense. But Carla got cold feet as her feelings for Peter Barlow remained.
At their engagement party Carla argued with Frank and after she jumped into her car and they drove off, she drunkenly lost control, crashing into and injuring Stella. Frank moved Carla out of the driver’s seat and took the blame for the accident.
But Carla finally told Frank she couldn’t marry him, as she knew she didn’t love him. Frank took the news badly and subjected Carla to a horrifying rape in her flat.
Afterwards, Carla started drinking even more, spiralling into depression and when she overdosed on tablets, Peter was there to save her, leaving Leanne confused about their close relationship. In the months that followed Peter and Carla started an affair but Frank was soon suspicious and hired a detective to follow them.
As Frank awaited trial for rape, his mum Anne moved into his role at Underworld, causing Carla more misery than she deserved. But as Frank's case finally reached court, would Carla and Peter's affair be exposed?
